In addition to the main safety issue I have with Magellan Academy, I think it is a glorified drop-off center with a long list of so-called services that are only there to sell you on them, not for the true benefit of your child. Don't get me wrong, Magellan Academy is just one of many Jacksonville day care centers that do this. OK, it's a business, understood. But this is a special business because it has to do with the well being of your child. It took about 4 months of my child being in Magellan Academies Durban Crossing location, for me to realize that I wanted to do better for my child.
The Magellan Academy President Thomas Blitch is quite fond of his "Awards"and was quick to tell me how much smarter he was than me in his demeaning e-mails. This man is so bottom line driven and narcissistic, I wouldn't expect Magellan Academy to be any better.
They tell you that you get a daily report. Trust me, all of the reports from child to child pretty much say the same thing. My reports told me how my child at 100% of things like hamburgers, barbecue sandwiches, etc. First, my child has never eaten 100% of anything and secondly, she doesn't eat these things. Not that I haven't tried. I even picked her up early once and her report was already filled out for the entire day. Why not forget such busy work and use that time for the teachers to focus on the children?
Also, my child was always, I mean always sick when going to Magellan Academy in Jacksonville, FL. I understand kids are going to share germs, fine, but my child was constantly sick and I noticed on the cameras that the changing tables were not being regularly cleaned between each child. She has been so healthy and hasn't gotten sick at all since I've pulled her out. And she is always playing around other children and regularly exposed to public playgrounds. It's been nice not having to make near weekly trips to her doctor.
I would just encourage you to look at Montessori schools for your children. They are passionate about what they do and approach your child's care in a manner that fosters true growth in countless areas. It took me all of five minutes to realize how I had done my child a disservice by enrolling her in Magellan Academy.
But if you talk to Thomas Blitch, don't expect him to admit that anything is wrong with Magellan Academy. I found the gentleman impossible to deal with and found him to be under the impression that he was absolutely perfect.

Well, looks like not much has changed. I wish I had found this before I enrolled my child. The teacher in my classroom is amazing, but she's the only reason he is still there. I have him on a waitlist at another day care, and as soon as it's open, i'm pulling him from Magellan!
ReplyDeleteI found the Magellan Academy excellent. It is a matter of your opinion. They do an excellent job with my children. They are very safe and secure.I took my children out of a dump and put them at Magellan and frankly I am glad that we did. Just because you had several issues doesn't mean that they are all bad. We all have issues with businesses from time to time, but just go elsewhere. I don't stoop to the level of writing blogs. Stay home with your kids because no one is going to make you 100% happy. What is your real name by the way?
ReplyDeleteYou are quite comical Linda. If only you knew what went on behind the facade that is presented in front of you. Do everyone a favor and look into why there is only Magellan still barely in operation.
DeleteReally really good school. We are very happy with this school. The academics are solid and the environment is very clean unlike other child care centers. I can't believe that anyone would place their child in a Montessori school. What a horrible education(If you can call it that). My child took four steps back at the Montessori Tides daycare. Since I enrolled my child at Magellan they have taken 10 leaps forward. The Montessori daycare are expensive and dirty. My child was sick all the time at the Montessori Tides school. At least at Magellan my child is rarely sick. We are glad we switched to Magellan. The management and corporate staff are very helpful and professional.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually blog about businesses, but I will blog about this school because it is one of the best schools I have had my three triplets at. The food is the tops and frankly my children eat better at Magellan than I cook at home.I can't think of a better school than Magellan. Children will get sick as this is life, there are no guarantees, but at Magellan, my children are not sick too often and this is a really good thing. The education is the best. I highly recommend Magellan to any parent. Give them a try, you won;t be disappointed.

Magellan is the best. Looks like things don't change much at Montessori daycares. Expensive, dirty, poor education, and their method of teaching is just weird. Magellan is 180 degrees from Montessori daycares.I can't believe that anyone would put their child in Montessori. Put them at Magellan where at least the academics are very sound. Most people who post negatively about a company is usually a deadbeat and trying to get out from paying their bills.
